We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Backend Engineer to join a major government digital programme. You will design, build, and maintain secure, scalable Back End services using Java, microservices, and API-driven integration patterns, deployed on Microsoft Azure. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in complex environments, enjoys solving technical challenges, and can contribute to high-quality, user-centred public services.

Essential Skills:

• Strong commercial experience with Java, Spring Boot, and Back End microservices.

• Hands-on experience with Azure cloud services and cloud-native development.

• Proven ability to design and build REST APIs and complex integration solutions.

• Experience with containerisation (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes/AKS).

• Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

• Knowledge of secure coding, authentication patterns, and government-grade security expectations.

• Experience working in Agile, multidisciplinary teams.
