SRE - Site Reliability Engineer - Java (Contract)

Location: London Country: UK Rate: £400 - £500 per day + (Inside IR35 - Via Umbrella)
 

Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)

Please note this is NOT a DevOps role.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) who has a background as a Java developer. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Java coding, Docker, and experience working in regulated or corporate environments. As an SRE, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of our systems while automating processes and improving existing applications to enhance our engineering team's efficiency and productivity.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the on-call individual for the domain, responding to incidents, diagnosing issues, and implementing solutions promptly.
  • Automate manual processes related to live support and troubleshooting to streamline operations.
  • Utilize strong Java coding abilities to make changes and improvements to existing applications.
  • Configure Docker and manage infrastructure to ensure optimal performance.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop tooling and solutions that enhance production services.
  • Conduct troubleshooting, identify root causes, and implement fixes for technical issues.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and standards in a corporate environment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Solid experience in Java programming and Docker configuration.
  • Strong understanding of cloud-based technologies and infrastructure.
  • Previous experience working in regulated environments or corporate settings.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Self-motivated with a strong desire to automate and improve processes.

Additional Skills (Preferred but not required):

  • Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automation tools like Jenkins or GitLab CI/CD.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Splunk.
  • Understanding of microservices architecture and container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
