Infrastructure Team Leader (Permanent)

The Role
The Infrastructure Team is a small team of engineers with high levels of experience, competence and capabilities. This team is responsible for the design, support and delivery of high level and technical products and services and as such need to work to exacting standards of quality and professionalism at all times.

The Infrastructure Team Lead role is responsible for the definition and adherence of those standards across the team. In addition, this person will assume responsibility for the availability, performance, resilience and security of the core platform and infrastructure and will undertake whatever actions necessary to ensure this within the agreed operating constraints and budget. As the company's senior engineer the post holder will provide a technical consultancy and architect service as required.

Duties and responsibilities
Team Leader

  • Manage the team is a positive manner to align with business growth plans.
  • Own the planning and administration of the infrastructure roadmap and product owner responsibilities
  • Represent the Infrastructure team at meetings.
  • Setting and managing regular goals and appraisals for the infrastructure team.
  • Demonstrates consistent levels of professionalism at all times and leads by example.

Core Infrastructure & Technical Architecture/Support

  • Work within Company policies and guidelines.
  • Be involved in the design, implementation and support for all data networks across all locations. This includes Local Area Networks and liaising with the managed WAN providers for effective fault resolution.
  • Provide expert support for workstations & Servers running Microsoft Server / Workstation Products, Citrix, Linux.
  • Implement and Provide expert support on storage both local and network based.
  • Server Planning, Design, Build and Fault fixing.
  • Use of Group Policy and Active Directory to control Workstation and Server behaviour across the network, auditing users & ensure it is working correctly.
  • Ensure all backup processes for network equipment and Servers are robust running according to the backup policy.
  • Ensure IT systems are protected against virus infections and infections are controlled in accordance with best practice.
  • Ensure all documentation is maintained up-to-date, accurately and in an easily understood manner.
  • Be involved in regular audits of company equipment and software used and recommend improvements and upgrades.
  • To implement and document policies, standards and procedures, proposing upgrades and enhancements to these from the basis of own expert knowledge, and experience with the installed equipment.
  • Liaise with key suppliers and customers to ensure the effective delivery or projects and products.
  • Be available as part of the out of hours on call rota, and be able to effectively prioritse and troubleshoot issues affecting critical services.

Pre Sales Support

  • Support pre-sales activity escalated by the pre-sales engineer
  • Plan, design and cost proposed solutions to meet customers' needs
  • Serve as escalation point for the pre-sales engineer where there's greater technical complexity.

Other

  • As a senior engineer you will possess the ability to not just train your fellow team members but also the other support teams.
  • Occasionally travel to other locations and stay overnight.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as required.

Qualifications and experience

  • Experienced 3rd Line engineer who has either worked as a team leader or is looking to further their career by managing a small team.
  • Although not essentials Microsoft, Networking or Linux accreditations are a bonus.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Use of Active Directory, Group policy and File permissions in Microsoft and Linux (Debian)
  • A good understanding of basic network functions such as NAT, Spanning Tree, HSRP, VLANs, routing of traffic and the use of subnets.
  • An ability to maintain regular backups of Servers using a mixture of backup and recovery products.
  • An ability to configure and troubleshoot, Switches, Firewalls Routers and wireless networks.
  • A detailed understanding of copper structured and fibre optic cabling systems
  • The post holder will have the ability to produce Technical Documentation to an agreed standard.
  • Keep abreast of industry technology and advise on vendor product developments.
