DevOps Engineer - SC - Basingstoke - 22976 (Contract)

DevOps Engineer

We are urgently seeking a DevOps Engineer for a Global IT Service Provider.

Location: Hybrid - Basingstoke 3 days per week

Length: 12 months

A National Clearance is required for the role however all candidates will be considered

Are you an existing or aspiring DevOps Engineer with experience in Infrastructure as Code who combines strong broad technical skills with an ability to design and automate, where possible, the deployment and configuration of products? Do you have the ability to modify design documentation to deliver new improved features? Do you have experience of working in technically multi-disciplined environments?

The role will involve working as part of a dedicated DevOps team responsible for the BAU delivery of the SPAAS service into the Home Office. It will entail activities associated with maintaining, configuring, developing, documenting and supporting solutions and offerings on an exciting new project utilising cutting-edge technologies and development methodologies. The work will include infrastructure automation, integration, test and operation with new feature development and support and maintenance. Working alongside a team of professionals, you will be driven to find better, faster and more effective solutions.

The role will require support out of hours as part of regular on-call support for the platform as well as support to the LBO (Large Binary Object) Transfer and Scanning solution that is being transitioned into Service. The successful candidate will be expected to be part of this level of support as and when it is required which will be agreed with the team lead.

Your experience

  • A demonstrable understanding of the full Software Delivery Lifecycle
  • Has experience working closely with IT Operations, IT Development and IT Service teams to promote DevOps culture
  • Experience in working closely with customers
  • In depth understanding of continuous integration, continuous delivery, software configuration management, version control and release management.
  • Experience in provisioning cloud environments
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Availability to be on call out of hours on a rota basis

Technical Skills

You will have skills in a number of the below key technologies and have the desire to develop your understanding and skill further:

  • Rancher

  • Ansible, Helm, Terraform
  • Linux
  • VMware
  • Elastic Stack (ELK/ECK)
  • Gitlab
  • GoLang Scripting language
  • AWS

Desirable Skills

  • Experience of ITIL and IT Management systems, such as ServiceNow, Jira, and Confluence
  • Automated testing tools
  • Agile project delivery & ceremonies
  • Storage solutions
