Network Engineer (Data Centre) (Permanent)
Location: City of London Country: UK Rate: £53k - £57k per annum
Data Centre Network Engineer
Hybrid 2 onsite 3 days remote
Overview:
Within the IT department, the Data Centre Network Engineer plays a crucial role in maintaining and advancing network infrastructure. This position involves managing the network operations in the data center, addressing core routing, network security, and Internet services. The engineer will also support regular operational activities such as monitoring, support, automation, and network optimization.
Responsibilities:
* Manage and secure the operation of data centers and server rooms.
* Develop and oversee data center management and monitoring systems.
* Collaborate with the Facilities and Infrastructure team to optimize energy efficiency.
* Provide technical guidance for infrastructure setups including power requirements and equipment installation.
* Lead on DNS, DHCP, IPAM, and cable management systems.
* Operate the data center network and collaborate with network team members.
* Monitor systems daily, ensuring integrity and availability of hardware and server resources.
* Diagnose and resolve network issues, including off-hours support as needed.
* Drive continuous improvement in network service quality.
* Automate tasks to enhance efficiency and reduce errors.
* Liaise with various teams to meet network requirements and project deliverables.
* Maintain comprehensive documentation of operations and designs.
* Stay updated on network industry trends and technologies.
Key Experience and Competencies:
* Degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
* Proficient in networking technologies with a solid background in a large-scale environment.
* Certifications such as Cisco CCNP or Juniper JNCIP preferred.
Proven experience in:
* Data Centre Networking and Management
* Environmental monitoring and network security
* Advanced network protocols and segmentation
* Network monitoring and troubleshooting
* Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
* Strong interpersonal skills and capability to build relationships at all levels.
Desirable:
* Experience with structured cabling, network fabric and micro-segmentation.
* Familiarity with various networking technologies across multiple vendors.
