Purpose:

The Enterprise Architect-Industrial Packaging (IPG Architect) reports to the Senior Manager of Enterprise Architecture and functionally to the IT Director, Industrial Packaging. The IPG Architect is a key member of IT's Architecture Leadership group who will be responsible for providing technical direction and leadership with solution platforms and processes for Industrial Packaging, specifically providing this during i) project execution, ii) IT strategy & roadmap development and iii) innovation and emerging technologies assessments. This will require developing and maintaining relationships with key solution and service partners. This role will have opportunities to contribute to work in Mill of the Future, Analytics & Data Science and Emerging Technologies & Innovation programs, including, "sponsoring" new solutions and technologies for the business unit and developing the "business cases" for their implementation. The IPG Architect will provide specific skills in the areas of Application, Information, Technical and Development Architecture. The IPG Architect will be responsible leading efforts to ensure conformity to IP's architectural models and standards. The IPG Architect will manage the overall architecture process for the assigned business or process area, coordinate future architecture direction and transition plans (ie roadmaps). The IPG Architect will provide architecture governance and administer IP's IT architecture compliance/variance processes. The IPG Architect will contribute to and ensure the knowledge base within IP's application & technology repository (APM) for the assigned business or process area is sustained by the IT and technical owners.

ACCOUNTABILITIES & PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The IPG Architect Lead is to have a high level of proficiency with the business process, information and technical models and technology directions of the company to determine leverage opportunities.

  • Ensure that solution designs are aligned with architecture strategies, direction and transition plans
  • Ensure that architecture decisions are business driven and cost effective
  • Develop the case for strategic investments necessary to support architectural decisions
  • Maintain the repository of architecture information for their areas of focus
  • Communicate and work with the IT community, including BIM, PIM, Strategy & Planning, Technical Services and Application Services functions
  • Provide consulting, coaching and training services to the enterprise with regard to utilization of common architectures - leveraging their position of enterprise visibility.
  • Contribute to the overall solution architecture analysis and design process
  • Challenge and redirect architectural decisions that do not support IP's desired architectures or are not aligned with IT's general and domain principles.
  • Administer and contribute to the IP Architecture Methods, Work Packages (business process, information management, data and technical) and Architecture Fitness Assessment process in conjunction with the Project Assessment and Delivery Process (PDP)
  • Ensure that solutions align with an architected, planned environment in order to:
    • Reduce complexities
    • Promote controls and standards
    • Enforce common methods and accountabilities
    • Reduce total cost of ownership and reduce time to deliver
    • Minimize the need to repeatedly review architecture decisions
    • Maximize benefit to the enterprise

Additionally, the IPG Architect will ensure consistent approach to and engagement of IP's functional process owners and IT's Process Information Management function where appropriate.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent
  • Advanced degree preferred (MBA, Masters Computer Science, Engineering)
  • Requires 10+ years of increasing technology management and IT architecture experience
  • Experience with management of business process, information management and technology resources
  • Excellent technical understanding of several of IP's architecture domains
  • Deep knowledge of industry trends and best practices
  • Experience planning, developing and working within architectural frameworks
  • Understanding of and ability to work in the context of IP's enterprise and business process and information models
  • Ability to facilitate studies, collaborate effectively and build consensus
  • Able to work in an unstructured, changing environment
  • Ability to analyze, synthesize and communicate, verbally and in writing, abstract concepts
